Mojito Sugar Swizzle Stick Cocktails

14 Oct

As you might know we are now stocking Sugar Swizzle Sticks (aka American Rock Candy), so glad it is now available in the UK! You can read about that here in an earlier blog post.

We have spied some creative ways to eat and use sugar swizzle sticks and were inspired by some of the cocktail making we found on Pinterest. Our first cocktail experimentation was with our lime sugar swizzle sticks making a Mojito…. mmm! This has probably got to be one of my favourite cocktails of all time, so of course I was eager to try this combination first! I had to make this in the middle of the day for photo / lighting purposes, which was really not a good idea! But tasty all the same!

Mojito Sugar Swizzle Stick Cocktail Recipe

Serves 2

Crushed Ice

3 x Sugar Swizzle Sticks

2 x Limes

Small handful of Mint Leaves

120 ml White Rum

Soda Water to taste

Step 1 – Put one of the sugar swizzle sticks in a mortar and pestle and give it a good grind until it becomes course to fine sugar granules. It is hard to seperate the sugar from the stick, so you may need to pop the whole thing in to try and remove the stick! If you don’t have a mortar and pestle pop in a plastic food bag and give it a good old bash with a rolling pin!

Step 2 – Squeeze all the limes into a small shallow dish. To create your sugar rim dip the rim of the glasses into the lime juice and then dip into sugar granules.Mojito ingredients

Step 3 – Add some mint leaves and a small sprinkle of the left over crushed sugar granules to the glass. It is important to remember here, not to add to much as you will be garnishing the drink with another sugar swizzle stick which will add more sweetness to the Mojito. Muddle the lime and sugar to help release some of the flavours.

Step 4 – Add the remainder of the ingredients. Firstly add some crushed ice, then 60ml of White Rum, remainder of the lime juice and soda water to taste.

Step 5 – The final step is to add the sugar swizzle stick. Here I have just stuck to lime, but if you wanted to mix it up, you could add different flavours. Mojito with blueberry is also a good combination!

The sugar swizzle stick will slowly disolve in your drink making it become slightly sweeter than the original mix. If you give our recipe a go, we would love to hear from you and see some photos! Please let us know, by writing in the comments below or sending us an email with the details. We would love to hear from you!

Fourth of July Party Inspiration

16 Jun

With Independence day just around the corner and many celebrations being planned in the sunny UK (?!) I thought I would put together a little party inspiration board.

As you may be aware we gain a lot of inspiration from US parties. In the UK we definitely know how to have fun and throw a good bash, but dare I say it the US just seem to do it loud and proud. If you don’t agree just take a moment to look at a couple of US based party websites including the wonderful 100 layer cake and Hostess with the Mostess. Amazing, huh?

We have some fab US based suppliers who supply most of our party products including our wooden utensils, tissue decorations and sugar swizzle sticks. In celebration of Fourth of July we have put together a little mood board of some of our favourite products.

For more party decorations and inspiration you can check out our special Fourth of July party page. However you choose to celebrate we hope you have a sun and fun filled day of celebration.

A Mint & Gold Dessert Table

2 Apr

Hi folks, hope you are all well on this fine Tuesday. Late last year I organised a styled shoot of two of my favourite colours – Mint and Gold! These two amazing colours are a match made in heaven especially when incorporated into Weddings.

Now ya’ll know how I LOVE a good ole Candy Buffet, but I have to admit I LOVE a dessert table even more. With this one I combined the two. A little candy and a little dessert and this is what happened…….

Now creating your own DIY version is not that hard. If you are planning on creating a dessert table for a party or your own wedding, why not try a mini version first? It will give you an idea on the time it takes to create and will give you a chance to practice any recipes before your big day.

Sugar Swizzle Sticks are now in the UK!

28 Mar

We are soooo excited to announce that we are now stocking sugar swizzle sticks otherwise known as rock candy in the US. You may have seen the white or brown sugar swizzle sticks that you can swirl lovingly in your coffee or tea, but we have colour! This really is BIG news!

Image

I have had many requests for these and people often ask why can’t you find them in the UK? Several rumours have been circulating including the colouring is not approved by the Food Agency and they are too expensive to import in. Yes, it is not cheap to import them that much is true BUT hopefully my prices are still are affordable. In regards to the colouring; we have been given the green light to import them. We are using a supplier in the US that are aware of the colouring issues therefore uses as minimal amount of additives.

So what is Sugar Swizzle Sticks? It is the product of the further refining by recrystallisation of pure cane sugar.  In fact, it is the purest form of sugar available, because all impurities are excluded as large crystals form.  Crystal growth is based on the particular characteristics of sugar (sucrose) chemistry, and cannot be done with the various “sugar free” substitutes found in the market.

What can you use Sugar Swizzle Sticks for? Swizzle Sticks have has a huge presence on the party and wedding scene in the US and around the world. Often they are used in candy buffets and dessert tables to compliment a particular colour theme. They can be eaten right off the stick, similar to a lollipop! Swizzle Sticks can also be used as a nice addition to your favourite cocktail or glass of champagne. Just add to your drink, stir and watch the magic happen!

Can we tempt you to try??
