Our Favourite Halloween Party Printables 2013

25 Oct

We have been searching high and low for some of the best Halloween banners, invites, decorations and food labels. Printables have a HUGE presence in the USA and are slowly becoming more known over here in the UK, they give you a greater choice and you can get a pdf copy of the design sometimes sent to you within minutes!  I am going to share some of my favourite designs with you, so you have a quick ‘go to’ guide if you want to create a special Halloween party banner, invite, cupcake label – here are our top finds.

TomKatStudio Glam Halloween Printable Collection

TomKatStudio are one of my favourite online shops for printables. They are always leading the way in unique designs for parties. They have two Halloween choices this year; but my favourite has got to be this gorgeous Glam Printable Collection.

This year Hostess with the Mostess have a wide choice of designs for young and old alike! For younger children the Hello Halloween design is the collection you need (no scary witches here!)

I really love the Ghouls Night collection. Very girly, perfect for a night in with your pals and a few cocktails of course.

You may know that I am a HUGE fan of chevron, so I love how this invite incorporates that. Also top marks for the cocktail glasses – love!

Halloween Cupcake Toppers

I must admit, what first attracted me to these Halloween toppers by Love the Day were the most lushest looking cupcakes and bright orange icing. Seriously want to eat one now!!

Noah’s Jungle Themed Birthday Party

20 Oct

We fell in love with this gorgeous jungle themed dessert table for little Noah’s 2nd birthday party. The bright colours are guaranteed to make any 2 year old happy! Noah’s mum Nicola who created the table along with Jodie are the owners of the talented Treat Boutique based in Nottingham.

We love the mixture of sweets, cakes and desserts on the table and that wow factor cake!!!

Jungle Dessert Table

All the sweets were in keeping with the jungle theme including sweet bananas, jelly snakes and tiger tails that were created from marshmallows!

The stunning cake was created by Lauren at Kupcake Kisses  which was a 3 layer cake, half vanilla and half chocolate.  Lauren also created the yummy chocolate coated Oreo sticks.

Nicola and Jodie’s top party planning tips for creating a gorgeous dessert table are –

♥ Make sure you add different heights to your table to give it depth. Add in unique textures and patterns for your risers and props. For instance we used chopped wood and wrapped boxes in animal print paper that worked perfectly for a jungle theme.

♥ Our curtain backdrop was made from ribbon and crepe paper and by adding the lion piñata it just finishes it off nicely. It was a very cheap and effective addition to the dessert table.

Thank you Jodie and Nicola for sharing this gorgeous jungle themed dessert table.

Mojito Sugar Swizzle Stick Cocktails

14 Oct

As you might know we are now stocking Sugar Swizzle Sticks (aka American Rock Candy), so glad it is now available in the UK! You can read about that here in an earlier blog post.

We have spied some creative ways to eat and use sugar swizzle sticks and were inspired by some of the cocktail making we found on Pinterest. Our first cocktail experimentation was with our lime sugar swizzle sticks making a Mojito…. mmm! This has probably got to be one of my favourite cocktails of all time, so of course I was eager to try this combination first! I had to make this in the middle of the day for photo / lighting purposes, which was really not a good idea! But tasty all the same!

Mojito Sugar Swizzle Stick Cocktail Recipe

Serves 2

Crushed Ice

3 x Sugar Swizzle Sticks

2 x Limes

Small handful of Mint Leaves

120 ml White Rum

Soda Water to taste

Step 1 – Put one of the sugar swizzle sticks in a mortar and pestle and give it a good grind until it becomes course to fine sugar granules. It is hard to seperate the sugar from the stick, so you may need to pop the whole thing in to try and remove the stick! If you don’t have a mortar and pestle pop in a plastic food bag and give it a good old bash with a rolling pin!

Step 2 – Squeeze all the limes into a small shallow dish. To create your sugar rim dip the rim of the glasses into the lime juice and then dip into sugar granules.Mojito ingredients

Step 3 – Add some mint leaves and a small sprinkle of the left over crushed sugar granules to the glass. It is important to remember here, not to add to much as you will be garnishing the drink with another sugar swizzle stick which will add more sweetness to the Mojito. Muddle the lime and sugar to help release some of the flavours.

Step 4 – Add the remainder of the ingredients. Firstly add some crushed ice, then 60ml of White Rum, remainder of the lime juice and soda water to taste.

Step 5 – The final step is to add the sugar swizzle stick. Here I have just stuck to lime, but if you wanted to mix it up, you could add different flavours. Mojito with blueberry is also a good combination!

The sugar swizzle stick will slowly disolve in your drink making it become slightly sweeter than the original mix. If you give our recipe a go, we would love to hear from you and see some photos! Please let us know, by writing in the comments below or sending us an email with the details. We would love to hear from you!

If you are interested in looking at our other flavours you can take a look here. Happy cocktail making!
