A Vintage Glam Table Setting

28 May

Vintage has been such a popular trend within the Wedding world, but this year a new trend is emerging involving sparkles. So what happens when you combine the two trends – Vintage Glam!

Image

When planning your big day you will either look for inspiration from wedding trends or forge your own style, but you can’t deny that sequin linen is gorgeous, especially if you love a bit of sparkle!

Image

The pink sequin tablecloth is used as the backdrop to this vintage glittering table setting. Lots of brides love the vintage look but we decided it was time to glam things up and add some sequins.

Image

To take the sparkle to the next level you can add paper decorations, tassel garlands and props to compliment your table setting. Use ones that add more sparkle such as glitter or shiny metallics. We have used a tassel garland which includes mylar, which is a shiny paper/film that compliments the table setting perfectly.

Beautiful vases with flowers casually clustered in gold and pink tones give a relaxed feeling to the table to stop things becoming too formal. Scented tuberose and roses added the glamour along with gold foliage.

I am definetely keen to explore this theme more with different colour sequins and decorations, time to get planning! Love to know what you think about this combo?

Blue & White Christmas Dessert Table Inspiration

17 Nov

Last week it was like Christmas at The Sweet Hostess HQs. Long awaited boxes of pretty and delicate paper decorations had arrived safe and sound from the US. Yes, the usual honeycomb balls, tissue pom poms and even a few new items like honeycomb hearts and diamonds had arrived. But my absolute favourite new arrival are the snowflakes, the white ones are so pretty but it is the blue and white frosted versions that have stolen my heart. I really just want to keep them all for myself 🙂

Image

I just knew I had to create a dessert table backdrop with them. Just even adding a few makes a huge impact! I love the traditional white snowflakes, but I absolutely LOVE the blue and white frosted snowflakes. The photos on my website don’t really do them justice, definitely need to learn some new photography skills!

Image

A tower of mini doughnuts is one of the easiest and cheapest ways of adding some impact to your dessert table at home. To tie in with the Christmas theme add a sprinkle of icing sugar. I have blinged them up by adding some embellished cake toppers.

Some silver striped straws are perfect for Christmas and New Year celebrations. As well as gold and silver stripes, chevron and stars we also have the most adorable red snowflake paper straws which are now available from our shop.

Image

All the cake toppers you see are from the Danish brand Miss Etoile which we have been stocking from last month. Their products are simply gorgeous. As well as those we are stocking silver and gold vintage bird cake stands. You can see the silver version above, each has a lovely bird printed on the top of the stand. So much love for this!

We hope you like our dessert table and it gives you some inspiration to create your own. Watch our for our red and gold themed table coming next week. xx

I must admit, what first attracted me to these Halloween toppers by Love the Day were the most lushest looking cupcakes and bright orange icing. Seriously want to eat one now!!

Mojito Sugar Swizzle Stick Cocktails

14 Oct

As you might know we are now stocking Sugar Swizzle Sticks (aka American Rock Candy), so glad it is now available in the UK! You can read about that here in an earlier blog post.

We have spied some creative ways to eat and use sugar swizzle sticks and were inspired by some of the cocktail making we found on Pinterest. Our first cocktail experimentation was with our lime sugar swizzle sticks making a Mojito…. mmm! This has probably got to be one of my favourite cocktails of all time, so of course I was eager to try this combination first! I had to make this in the middle of the day for photo / lighting purposes, which was really not a good idea! But tasty all the same!

Mojito Sugar Swizzle Stick Cocktail Recipe

Serves 2

Crushed Ice

3 x Sugar Swizzle Sticks

2 x Limes

Small handful of Mint Leaves

120 ml White Rum

Soda Water to taste

Step 1 – Put one of the sugar swizzle sticks in a mortar and pestle and give it a good grind until it becomes course to fine sugar granules. It is hard to seperate the sugar from the stick, so you may need to pop the whole thing in to try and remove the stick! If you don’t have a mortar and pestle pop in a plastic food bag and give it a good old bash with a rolling pin!

green swizzle crumbs

Step 2 – Squeeze all the limes into a small shallow dish. To create your sugar rim dip the rim of the glasses into the lime juice and then dip into sugar granules.Mojito ingredients

Step 3 – Add some mint leaves and a small sprinkle of the left over crushed sugar granules to the glass. It is important to remember here, not to add to much as you will be garnishing the drink with another sugar swizzle stick which will add more sweetness to the Mojito. Muddle the lime and sugar to help release some of the flavours.

Step 4 – Add the remainder of the ingredients. Firstly add some crushed ice, then 60ml of White Rum, remainder of the lime juice and soda water to taste.

Step 5 – The final step is to add the sugar swizzle stick. Here I have just stuck to lime, but if you wanted to mix it up, you could add different flavours. Mojito with blueberry is also a good combination!

The sugar swizzle stick will slowly disolve in your drink making it become slightly sweeter than the original mix. If you give our recipe a go, we would love to hear from you and see some photos! Please let us know, by writing in the comments below or sending us an email with the details. We would love to hear from you!

If you are interested in looking at our other flavours you can take a look here. Happy cocktail making!

16 Sep

Hello! Did you see us in Homemaker magazine last month? We were so happy to be featured in ‘Gather Friends for a Sweet Occasion’. I have been a BIG fan of Homemaker magazine for sometime so was chuffed to bits to mentioned.

Some of our products to be featured were our paper straws, baking cups and candy bags. I love the colour combination and something I would have never thought of myself; blues, apricots, pinks and teal.

Etsy Craft Party #scp

21 Jul

…….. #scp = Southampton Craft Party of course. A few weeks ago I was one of the sponsors for an AMAZEBALLS Etsy Craft Party. This was like no other crafternoon or crafty type party that I had seen! It was organised by the extremely talented and Harriet Gray. Let’s just say lots of very cool crafty products, making and the most yummiest spread of food was involved. I was only a little bit jealous that I wasn’t their…. (OK a LOT).

I wanted to share a few photos taken by the participants, but also link back to their blogs and etsy shops. I was really blown away by this talented bunch and I would totally recommend checking them out or following all their updates on Twitter.

Welcome to {Friday Find}

21 Jun

Welcome to my new series of posts called Friday Find! Every Friday I will be searching and writing about wonderful products and suppliers associated with the party and event industry. I am always on the hunt for inspiring ideas so thought I would share the love.

So my first Friday Find are these gorgeous photo booth props. I am sure you have already seen them doing the rounds on Etsy and Pinterest, but I recently put them into action and can vouch for how much fun they are!

For my youngest sons first birthday I created a photo booth area where all the guests could strike a pose with a prop while I took a photo! As part of my thank you notes I then included some printed booth photos. I also purchased this gorgeous printable poster via Etsy. As soon as I saw it I had to have!

In the interest of privacy to my guests I will not share any of the posed piccies at my little ones first birthday party, but here is the backdrop and photo prop area….

Fourth of July Party Inspiration

16 Jun

With Independence day just around the corner and many celebrations being planned in the sunny UK (?!) I thought I would put together a little party inspiration board.

As you may be aware we gain a lot of inspiration from US parties. In the UK we definitely know how to have fun and throw a good bash, but dare I say it the US just seem to do it loud and proud. If you don’t agree just take a moment to look at a couple of US based party websites including the wonderful 100 layer cake and Hostess with the Mostess. Amazing, huh?

We have some fab US based suppliers who supply most of our party products including our wooden utensils, tissue decorations and sugar swizzle sticks. In celebration of Fourth of July we have put together a little mood board of some of our favourite products.

For more party decorations and inspiration you can check out our special Fourth of July party page. However you choose to celebrate we hope you have a sun and fun filled day of celebration.

Tassel Garland Pin Party

27 May

We just had a little tassel garland pin party and thought we would share the love, inspiration and glitter we have just discovered! You may be aware that we are now stocking some stunning tissue garlands. Not so long ago we created our first tassel garland for a 4th birthday disco party.

Image

I loved the instant colourful impact it made on the dessert table I created, but couldn’t believe the time it took to actually create! And as you can see from my version above, it isn’t as pretty and fluffy as the other versions around.

Since then we decided to stock a range of homemade tissue tassel garlands on our website by a paper crafting expert! They not only look AMAZING they have been lovingly crafted with excellent quality tissue.

My favourite garlands have a mixture of textures including mylar and tissue. They really make the garlands pop! We had a little pin party earlier and pinned loads of inspiration on our Pinterest board. If you have a moment go and check it out. In the meantime here is a little snapshot of the inspiration….

Sugar Swizzle Sticks are now in the UK!

28 Mar

We are soooo excited to announce that we are now stocking sugar swizzle sticks otherwise known as rock candy in the US. You may have seen the white or brown sugar swizzle sticks that you can swirl lovingly in your coffee or tea, but we have colour! This really is BIG news!

Image

I have had many requests for these and people often ask why can’t you find them in the UK? Several rumours have been circulating including the colouring is not approved by the Food Agency and they are too expensive to import in. Yes, it is not cheap to import them that much is true BUT hopefully my prices are still are affordable. In regards to the colouring; we have been given the green light to import them. We are using a supplier in the US that are aware of the colouring issues therefore uses as minimal amount of additives.

So what is Sugar Swizzle Sticks? It is the product of the further refining by recrystallisation of pure cane sugar.  In fact, it is the purest form of sugar available, because all impurities are excluded as large crystals form.  Crystal growth is based on the particular characteristics of sugar (sucrose) chemistry, and cannot be done with the various “sugar free” substitutes found in the market.
Image
What can you use Sugar Swizzle Sticks for? Swizzle Sticks have has a huge presence on the party and wedding scene in the US and around the world. Often they are used in candy buffets and dessert tables to compliment a particular colour theme. They can be eaten right off the stick, similar to a lollipop! Swizzle Sticks can also be used as a nice addition to your favourite cocktail or glass of champagne. Just add to your drink, stir and watch the magic happen!

Can we tempt you to try??
