New Mini Series – Christmas Gift Wrapping

21 Nov

The countdown to Christmas has begun and The Sweet Hostess will be doing a series of gift wrapping blog posts with lots of creative ideas on how to wrap your presents!

We will be on the hunt for fabulous gift wrapping paper, accessories and tags. Everything to make your presents look fab and give it a unique spin.

ImageOur first post is a very simple wrapping idea which is perfect if you are pushed for time. Brown paper has been around for a while, but it is something I never tire of year after year. Not only is it an economical choice but it is a perfect backdrop for bows and ribbons and it gives your gift wrapping a united theme.

Here we have wrapped our present in brown paper and garnished it with our glitter tape! We are a big fan of glitter tape for all sorts of craft projects, but add it to your presents and it really just blings everything up! To give it a different edge I have used a whole punch to create a polka dot effect. I have stuck to gold for an elegant spin, but I think a bright colour like red or blue would look totally amazing too!

We would love to hear from you on any gift wrapping ideas! Please leave a comment or message me if you would like to share some gift wrapping tips or photos of your glammed up presents.

Have a wonderful day xx

Blue & White Christmas Dessert Table Inspiration

17 Nov

Last week it was like Christmas at The Sweet Hostess HQs. Long awaited boxes of pretty and delicate paper decorations had arrived safe and sound from the US. Yes, the usual honeycomb balls, tissue pom poms and even a few new items like honeycomb hearts and diamonds had arrived. But my absolute favourite new arrival are the snowflakes, the white ones are so pretty but it is the blue and white frosted versions that have stolen my heart. I really just want to keep them all for myself 🙂

Image

I just knew I had to create a dessert table backdrop with them. Just even adding a few makes a huge impact! I love the traditional white snowflakes, but I absolutely LOVE the blue and white frosted snowflakes. The photos on my website don’t really do them justice, definitely need to learn some new photography skills!

Image

A tower of mini doughnuts is one of the easiest and cheapest ways of adding some impact to your dessert table at home. To tie in with the Christmas theme add a sprinkle of icing sugar. I have blinged them up by adding some embellished cake toppers.

Some silver striped straws are perfect for Christmas and New Year celebrations. As well as gold and silver stripes, chevron and stars we also have the most adorable red snowflake paper straws which are now available from our shop.

All the cake toppers you see are from the Danish brand Miss Etoile which we have been stocking from last month. Their products are simply gorgeous. As well as those we are stocking silver and gold vintage bird cake stands. You can see the silver version above, each has a lovely bird printed on the top of the stand. So much love for this!

We hope you like our dessert table and it gives you some inspiration to create your own. Watch our for our red and gold themed table coming next week. xx

TomKatStudio Glam Halloween Printable Collection

TomKatStudio are one of my favourite online shops for printables. They are always leading the way in unique designs for parties. They have two Halloween choices this year; but my favourite has got to be this gorgeous Glam Printable Collection.

This year Hostess with the Mostess have a wide choice of designs for young and old alike! For younger children the Hello Halloween design is the collection you need (no scary witches here!)

I really love the Ghouls Night collection. Very girly, perfect for a night in with your pals and a few cocktails of course.

You may know that I am a HUGE fan of chevron, so I love how this invite incorporates that. Also top marks for the cocktail glasses – love!

Halloween Cupcake Toppers

I must admit, what first attracted me to these Halloween toppers by Love the Day were the most lushest looking cupcakes and bright orange icing. Seriously want to eat one now!!

Noah’s Jungle Themed Birthday Party

20 Oct

We fell in love with this gorgeous jungle themed dessert table for little Noah’s 2nd birthday party. The bright colours are guaranteed to make any 2 year old happy! Noah’s mum Nicola who created the table along with Jodie are the owners of the talented Treat Boutique based in Nottingham.

We love the mixture of sweets, cakes and desserts on the table and that wow factor cake!!!

Jungle Dessert Table

All the sweets were in keeping with the jungle theme including sweet bananas, jelly snakes and tiger tails that were created from marshmallows!

The stunning cake was created by Lauren at Kupcake Kisses  which was a 3 layer cake, half vanilla and half chocolate.  Lauren also created the yummy chocolate coated Oreo sticks.

Nicola and Jodie’s top party planning tips for creating a gorgeous dessert table are –

♥ Make sure you add different heights to your table to give it depth. Add in unique textures and patterns for your risers and props. For instance we used chopped wood and wrapped boxes in animal print paper that worked perfectly for a jungle theme.

♥ Our curtain backdrop was made from ribbon and crepe paper and by adding the lion piñata it just finishes it off nicely. It was a very cheap and effective addition to the dessert table.

Thank you Jodie and Nicola for sharing this gorgeous jungle themed dessert table.

Mojito Sugar Swizzle Stick Cocktails

14 Oct

As you might know we are now stocking Sugar Swizzle Sticks (aka American Rock Candy), so glad it is now available in the UK! You can read about that here in an earlier blog post.

We have spied some creative ways to eat and use sugar swizzle sticks and were inspired by some of the cocktail making we found on Pinterest. Our first cocktail experimentation was with our lime sugar swizzle sticks making a Mojito…. mmm! This has probably got to be one of my favourite cocktails of all time, so of course I was eager to try this combination first! I had to make this in the middle of the day for photo / lighting purposes, which was really not a good idea! But tasty all the same!

Mojito Sugar Swizzle Stick Cocktail Recipe

Serves 2

Crushed Ice

3 x Sugar Swizzle Sticks

2 x Limes

Small handful of Mint Leaves

120 ml White Rum

Soda Water to taste

Step 1 – Put one of the sugar swizzle sticks in a mortar and pestle and give it a good grind until it becomes course to fine sugar granules. It is hard to seperate the sugar from the stick, so you may need to pop the whole thing in to try and remove the stick! If you don’t have a mortar and pestle pop in a plastic food bag and give it a good old bash with a rolling pin!

green swizzle crumbs

Step 2 – Squeeze all the limes into a small shallow dish. To create your sugar rim dip the rim of the glasses into the lime juice and then dip into sugar granules.Mojito ingredients

Step 3 – Add some mint leaves and a small sprinkle of the left over crushed sugar granules to the glass. It is important to remember here, not to add to much as you will be garnishing the drink with another sugar swizzle stick which will add more sweetness to the Mojito. Muddle the lime and sugar to help release some of the flavours.

Step 4 – Add the remainder of the ingredients. Firstly add some crushed ice, then 60ml of White Rum, remainder of the lime juice and soda water to taste.

Step 5 – The final step is to add the sugar swizzle stick. Here I have just stuck to lime, but if you wanted to mix it up, you could add different flavours. Mojito with blueberry is also a good combination!

The sugar swizzle stick will slowly disolve in your drink making it become slightly sweeter than the original mix. If you give our recipe a go, we would love to hear from you and see some photos! Please let us know, by writing in the comments below or sending us an email with the details. We would love to hear from you!

If you are interested in looking at our other flavours you can take a look here. Happy cocktail making!

Miss Etoile Autumn / Winter Collection

14 Sep

I have been a big fan of Danish design company ‘Miss Etoile’ for some time. Two weeks ago I headed up to Birmingham to check out the latest products at the Autumn Gift Fair and to my utter delight Miss Etoile were exhibiting! It was a chance to see their products in the flesh and I wasn’t disappointed.

Image

Initially I will stock their cake stands, cake toppers, paper lanterns, confetti, doilies and sweet jars. Too happy! Miss Etoile represent glamour and elegance. The best thing is that the quality of the items is amazing but doesn’t have the price tag to match! Here are a few of my favourite products…..

Instagram Monthly round up

Happy September lovely people!

Image

What a busy August! How was yours? If you live in the UK like myself you must be feeling pretty chuffed about the gorgeous weather we have been experiencing – Thank you England!

I have loved August and looking back on my photos their has been so much going on! Two of my friends have gotten married and you will see a vintage inspired candy buffet I did for one of them. It didn’t really go to plan as the table provided was way too small and the immense wind meant I couldn’t display all my decorations, but the busyness of it all sort of goes with the vintage theme.

Plums. My lovely plums 🙂

Bottom right is a baby shower dessert table, which incidentally will be one of my last for a while (more on this later). The heart shortbread and cupcakes featured on the dessert table. I loved the little glitter heart cake toppers.

I discovered crazy jelly beans. Loads of different flavours and shapes – Tasstttttyyy!

Gold and white shredded paper, cute and crafty. New in the shop.

Wishing you a wonderful week xx
